About Susan Harper and Journeys in Excellence

High Ropes Course

   

Susan Harper is the founder and executive director of Journeys In Excellence, The Outdoor Teambuilding Training Company and the manager of the University of New Mexico’s High Ropes Confidence Course and Rock Climbing Program. Susan is an adjunct professor at the university and has completed her Ph.D.; conducting research on the high ropes course and women on welfare.

Susan is a certified instructor in many areas of outdoor recreation, including high ropes courses and rock climbing and leads outdoor adventure trips both nationally and internationally. She is a licensed Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) and an international consultant and speaker.

Susan was recently named a “Woman on the Move 2000” award winner and received the “Smart, Savy, and Successful Women in Business” award in 1997.

Who:  Journeys in Excellence, The Outdoor Teambuilding Training Company (JIE) is a professional development team of consultants, specializing in outdoor teambuilding, leadership and organizational development trainings. Experiential learning activities (learning by doing, followed by reflection and application) are used as well as traditional learning skills.

Where:  Journeys in Excellence, The Outdoor Teambuilding Training Company is based in the southwestern part of the United States and able to take advantage of the accommodating year around weather and the many unusual geological features unique to this area.  JIE has portable units and is able to travel to the site of your choice, nationally and internationally.

Mission:  Journeys in Excellence's mission is to guide and encourage individuals and organizations in the growth and development of those skills that will enable them to function on a higher level characterized by:  integrity; leadership; teamwork; trust; clear communication; good problem solving skills; resulting in increased respect for themselves and others, collaboration and cooperation, and increased productivity.

Programs:  Journeys In Excellence will custom design a 1 - 3 day training with follow-up based on the needs of your organization.  JIE provides a safe environment for constructive change and the creation of empowered work teams. An important initial ingredient is the Needs Assessment Session. This is an interview with your organization to determine exactly what you are looking to achieve and then a unique program will be designed to meet those needs.  

Journeys in Excellence, The Outdoor Teambuilding Training Company believes strongly in a multi-day approach for a long-term process of change.  Follow-up is also very important in that it challenges the group to continuously increase their level of commitment as their mutual respect, trust, and ability to work together grows
